Final Cut Sound Video

This is my final video of both man-made and natural textures with sounds I collected on my final sound walk. The same strategy holds true with this video. I matched the footage of smooth and rough textures with rough and smooth sounds. In addition, for my final video, I came up with the strategy of alternating sounds and the rhythm. For instance, I would start with the sound me walking and match the sound with stills that match each footstep. This would continue for five seconds and then I would jump to sounds that were surrounding me for ten seconds. The strategy continues throughout the video. Furthermore, I have decided to keep my video raw, meaning no special effects or transitions. While I was editing the footage and sound, I felt that adding these elements would take away from my video.

Rough Sound Sketch 2

This is a rough sketch of natural textures with sounds I gathered on my sound walk. The sounds in this video were always intentionally captured. It was until I went back to edit the sounds that I realized the potential in the sounds. There are sounds that I found, as I listened to them after my walk, fit with the textures. For instance, if the sound was rough, I found textures to go with the sound that was rough. If the sound was smooth and not hard to listen to, I matched it with smooth textures.

Rough Sound Sketch 1

This is a rough sketch of man-made textures using sound I gathered on my sound walk. I did not look for specific noises, although, I wanted interesting sounds to add to the images from another walk. Some sounds I gathered on my mini-disc recorder were intentional and some were not. For instance, if there was a constant noise such as water from the lake, I would simply stand walk there and capture the sound. However, there were sounds that would only be captured once, like a dog barking.

Rough Sketch 2

This is a rough sketch of natural textures I gathered on my walk. I wanted to find interesting textures found on the ground or from plants. I was surprised by the vast amount of textures that can be seen in nature if one were to take the time to look around. Although I wanted to find textures in nature, I did not have a specific idea as to where I would find them. I just simply went on a walk and took photographs and video of the textures that would grab the attention of the viewer.

Rough Sketch 1

https://pantherfile.uwm.edu/wagnered/public/FILM_116/stills/Sounds_in_Motion_1.mov.jpg

This is a rough sketch of man-made objects with interesting textures. I wanted to find interesting textures found not only on the ground but on buildings and signs. When I set out on my walk, I didn't just look for rough textures but kept an open mind in finding smooth textures. In addition to finding interesting man-made textures, I wanted to find signs with words that I could incorporate into my sketch.

Drift Strategy

For my second drift, I wanted to find man-made and natural objects that had interesting textures to them. When I first went out on my walk, I wasn't sure what I would come across. As I continued on my walk, I began to take more and more pictures. Soon, I had a clear goal in mind. I would separate the different types of objects that had unique textures. The two categories I used were objects that are man-made, such as buildings and signs, and also objects found in nature. This includes anything from leaves to rocks. If I came across anything interesting, I made sure I captured it at that moment.
